Speech-Language Therapy
Supporting communication in ways that are meaningful,
functional, and authentic to each child.
Communication looks different for every child.
At Brainstorm, speech-language therapy is individualized, play-based, and relationship-centered. We support children in building communication skills while respecting their language, culture, neurotype, and preferred ways of connecting with others.
You may be noticing…
-
Your child is not talking as much as expected
-
Your child is difficult for others to understand
-
Certain speech sounds continue to be challenging
-
Your child has difficulty understanding or following language
-
Your child has trouble expressing ideas, needs, or feelings
-
Your child stutters or shows changes in fluency
-
Your child communicates using gestures, signs, pictures, or AAC
-
Your child communicates differently across languages or environments
These concerns can look different across children and across languages.
A bilingual or multilingual child should not be evaluated as though they are monolingual.
Assessment helps us understand your child’s communication profile and determine whether therapy, monitoring, caregiver support, or another referral is appropriate.
How we can help
Therapy is individualized based on your child’s communication needs, strengths, developmental profile, and family priorities. Depending on the evaluation, treatment may support speech sound production, language development, fluency, AAC, and functional communication.
Speech Sounds

Support clearer, more efficient speech while considering articulation, phonology, motor speech, and oral function when relevant.
Language Development

Build understanding and expression through play, routines, relationships, and meaningful interaction.
Fluency

Support children who stutter with communication confidence, self-advocacy, and strategies appropriate to their individual needs.
AAC & Multimodal Communication

Support communication through speech, gestures, signs, pictures, and augmentative and alternative communication.
What speech-language therapy looks like at Brainstorm
Therapy at Brainstorm is active, playful, and connected to real communication. We do not measure success by how well a child complies with adult directions. We create opportunities for communication through relationships, interests, play, routines, and everyday experiences.
-
Connect & Engage: We begin with the child’s interests, comfort, and communication style.
-
Play & Communicate: Games, movement, books, pretend play, conversation, and everyday activities create meaningful opportunities for communication.
-
Build Skills: We target individualized speech, language, fluency, or AAC goals within activities that make sense to the child.
-
Practice in Real Life: Skills are supported beyond drills so they can become useful during conversations, play, school, and family routines.
-
Coach & Collaborate: Caregivers receive practical strategies they can use naturally at home without turning everyday interactions into therapy sessions.
A note from a Brainstorm family
“Our bilingual son made great strides in speech and language.”
Bilingual communication matters
Using more than one language does not cause a speech or language disorder. When working with bilingual and multilingual children, we consider skills across languages, family communication patterns, cultural context, and language exposure.
Our goal is not to replace a child’s home language with English.
We support communication while respecting and protecting the languages that connect children with their families and communities.
Collaboration matters
Communication happens everywhere—not only in the therapy room. With caregiver permission, we may collaborate with teachers, school SLPs, occupational therapists, physicians, dentists, ENTs, AAC teams, or other professionals involved in your child’s care.
When another evaluation or provider may better address part of your child’s needs, we will discuss that openly with you.
Is speech-language therapy covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage depends on your plan, medical necessity, and your child’s individual communication needs. We can review your benefits and help you understand whether insurance or private-pay services may apply.
